The 86 does not fall under the normal category of luxury or exotic cars that we normally try to feature on Premium Posts but being such a big fan of the original 86 I could not help myself. The new 86 was developed to be a reasonably priced sports car with performance specs focused on being a car with serious racing and drifting capabilities.
This coupe was not developed solely by Toyota but was a joint venture between Toyota and Subaru. The outcome of this joint project produced the new version of the classic AE86. The original AE86 was a popular car among street racers and car enthusiasts in the 80′s and still today due to the cars combination of being lightweight, having simple yet powerful engine that was easily modified and the cars rear wheel drive configuration.
(The Toyota AE86)
The outcome of Toyota and Subaru project is know just as the 86 which is the same basic layout of the original with a front engine, rear wheel drive layout but with a significantly more powerful engine. With Subaru being part of the team it is no surprise in the engine bay of the 86 is the Porsche Boxer generating around 200hp at 7,000rpm and 151lb-ft of torque at 6,600rpm. On paper the car looks to be a fun little vehicle to drive but from what we have gathered from people who have actually driving the car it may not met the desired expectations. I cannot say I am surprised though, what made the AE86 so great was it’s simplify and balance. Judging from what we have seen of the new 86, it misses on both counts.
Sustainability is spreading throughout every industry, and BMW is taking it to the streets. As city streets become more and more overcrowded and threats of congestion charges prove probable, the necessity for an electric car has arrived and the accessibility of having one is in our near future. BMW has been working hard to bring the electric car to the market, ever since 1969 with the electric BMW 1602 used in the 1972 Olympics in Munich. Now, BMW’s i3 (compact electric car for cities) and i8 (plug-in hybrid sports car) will hopefully be launched in 2013 and 2014. The i3, starting around $47k, and the i8 ($130k) are not only environmental being made mostly of recyclable materials and manufactured in part by using renewable energy, but are also practical for driving! The LifeDrive structure (high-strength and light-weight carbon-fiber reinforced plastic) and eDrive technology (agile mobility) create an enjoyable driving experience. But BMW is not limiting its sustainable resources to its products, it has invested $100M into BMW i Ventures to create services like MyCityWay and ParkatmyHouse for improving the driving scene in overcrowded cities.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with the Arial Atom, it is basically a super sized street legal go cart that?s faster than most $500,000+ exotic sports cars. This amazing machine weighs only 1,400 pounds and produced between 200 and 300 horsepower (depending on which model you get). This combination makes for a power to weight ratio that is more impressive than almost every other supercar. For more information on the Arial Atom you might want to check out my previous post about the original Arial Atom racecar.
CREWKERNE, England ? It’s hard to believe that the Ariel Atom could be improved upon since it is such a pure, bare bones, racecar. Difficult as it might be the third generation Arial Atom 3, just released in England has a number of small changes, all geared towards making this minimalist street legal go cart from hell even faster.
The upgraded Ariel Atom 3 chassis now offers Bilstein 10-way adjustable shocks and new motor mounts both of which cut down on vibration and allow for a much smoother ride (without jeopardizing road feel). New diagonal side rails result in 3.9 inches more elbow room and 2.4 inches of hip room inside the cockpit. Ariel also lowered the seating position (helping to improve comfort and lower the center of gravity). Engine choices include normally aspirated and supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder units, delivering up to 300 horsepower.
The Ariel Atom managed to win the title of the fastest car in the world on the 0-100 mph-0 sprint. Autocar took 29 of the fastest cars in the world, and the Arial Atom set a record time of 11.35 seconds. It beat all of its competitors, including: a Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, Brooke Double R, Porsche 911 GT3, Roush Ford GT 600RE and the Mercedes CL63 AMG just to name a few…! Not to shabby for a car that costs less than $100,000.
Barabus Sportscars (a specialty engine and vehicle manufacturer) recently unvailed what is being hailed as the worlds fastest steet legal car. The Barabus TKR produces 1005 horsepower and the automaker says is capable of doing zero to 60 mph in 1.67 seconds! Even crazier is that the car has a reported top speed of 270 mph (almost 20mph faster than the Bugatti Veyron). The powerplant in the Barabus TKR is a 6.0 liter V8 twin-turbocharged engine with dual intercoolers. The car has a full carbon fiber body and chassis. It appears as though the automaker will sell the car for about $500,000 and there will be between 300 and 400 produced within the 3 year production run.

If you recently started shopping for a car in the $1,500,000 range than you?re just a tad too late because all of the new Lamborghini Reventon’s have already been spoken for. (I guess your going to have to settle for one of those “dime a dozen” Ferrari Enzos or Bugatti Veyrons)
The Lamborghini was revealed at the Frankfurt auto show in Geneva not long ago. Lamborghini will be producing only 20 of these supercars and they were exclusively offered to “friends and collectors” at a price of $1.4 to $1.6 million dollars.
So what makes this supercar so special? Well, the Reventon was inspired by the F-22 Raptor fighter jet and the exterior is made entirely of carbon fiber laid over a carbon fiber and steel frame. The Lamborghini Reventon shares much in common with the LP640 and makes just slightly more horsepower (650hp to be exact). The interior however has been completely reworked and the Reventon’s instrument panel, (modeled after that in a modern jet), is comprised of three customizable liquid crystal displays that displays all your instruments, including a G-force display that shows longitudinal forces in a 3-dimensional image.
“Our designers at the Lamborghini Style Centre took the technical base of the Murci?lago LP640 and Read more…
If the Rolls Royce Phantom just isnt flashy enough for you than maybe you should consider the flat black Phantom. This flat black Rolls Royce Phantom is the new project of MANSORY and as you can see, it might not be everyone’s cup of tea but it definatly stands out from the crowd (as if the Phantom didnt already stand out enough)!
First off you wil notice the flat black laquer paint job and the much softer chrome exterior accents. The interior has carbon fiber and bright maple wood inlays and an implemented ambiance-light-effects that give the Phantom an amazing glow. The interior also features an alcantara roof lining, alcantara dashboard and a sport steering wheel. In the back there there are new electrical business tables with seat integrated multimedia monitors and perhaps best of all is the suspended particle device glass which allows the passangers to continuously regulate the transparency (opacity) with a remote control (similar to what you find in the Maybach)!
Performance upgrades include a boost in horsepower and an increase in torque to 575 lb-ft @ 3920 rpm. The top speed is also increased to 168 mph. In addition they outfitted the Mansory Phantom with black forged 24inch wheels and huge 6 piston Brembo brakes.
For more specs and a closer look at the Flat black Masory Rolls Royce Phantom check out this video (unfortunately the only version I could find was in German):
What’s faster than a Mercedes SLR? How about an SLK with an SLR motor! Dubai car collector Mohammed Ben Sulayem commissioned this project which crams a Mercedes SLR engine into the smallest Mercedes sports car they make. Besides the fact that they had to cut away part of the SLK’s hood, the car looks like a completely stock SLK AMG 55 but the result is a crazy fast SLK-SLR that is capable of dusting a Ferrari Enzo! Even cooler is that they did the same thing with a Mercedes E-class. The E-class pictured below also has an SLR motor installed. Talk about the ultimate “sleeper!” Maybe next they’ll put an SLR motor in a new Mercedes S65 AMG just so they can shave off a few pounds and get another 10 or 20 horsepower.
If your 50cc pocket bike isn’t giving you that adrenaline rush you crave than consider this modest upgrade: It’s the MTT Turbine Super bike also know as the Y2K. Weighing in at about 500 lb, this jet powered motorcycle uses a Rolls Royce Allison gas turbine engine to create over 320HP and 425 ft. lb. of torque, making it the most powerful (and most expensive) production motorcycle ever! So what does all that power equate to? Well if you can hang onto the handle bars long enough it will sling you from 0 to 217mph in 14 seconds and top out at around 250mph!
The Y2K superbike may not be practical and I can only imagine that this jet powered super bike has some handling issues, considering the fact that you are sitting on a jet engine that spins at 56,000rpm. But… Anyone who is going to spend $185,000 on a bike isn’t exactly looking for practicality. Jay Leno who was one of the first owners of a MTT jet powered superbike and in the video below you can hear the crazy sound this motorcycle makes and see it in action!
The bike features carbon fiber fairings, forward and rear looking radar detector with laser scrambler, a rear mounted camera with LCD color display, one touch “Smart Start” ignition… and a death sentance

The Austin Martin has always been one of the sexiest looking supercars on the road (IMO) and just when I thought it couldn’t look any better they decide to roll out the Austin Martin Vanquish S Ultimate Edition. The Vanquish S Ultimate Edition will be built to commemorate the last forty cars to roll off the production line. The Vanquish S Ultimate Edition centers on changes to the Vanquish S?s interior and exterior color and trim. The Vanquish S Ultimate edition will be painted “ultimate black” (a new color specifically created for the Ultimate Edition). On the inside, the all black cabin will be trimmed in a semi-aniline leather with coarse stitching and darkened chrome finish interior fittings. Each one will have a personalised sill plaque that will display its limited edition number. The Vanquish S Ultimate Edition will only be available with the 2+2 seating arrangement and the Ultimate Edition will come with no additional charge!
The Vanquish S Ultimate Edition will not include any performance upgrades over the standard Vanquish S (but as long as your the best looking you don’t need to be the fastest). When it comes to performance the Vanquish S may not be able to hang with the bigboys in the supercar lineup but it is still a “pretty” mean machine (check out the video below)! The Vanquish S has a V12 powerplant that pumps out about 525 horsepower and Read more…
I took some shots of my friends Audi S4 earlier today and messed around with them on Photoshop. Just thought I would share a few of the pics.
For those of you who don’t know much about the Audi S4, it really is a fun car to drive! The B5 Audi S4 (which was built between 1997 and 2002) is an all wheel drive 2.7 liter twin Turbo V6 sedan that is capable of pushing 350hp (to the wheels) with just a few bolt-ons (intake, exhaust, ECU…). Even now, 10 years after the S4 was first introduced they are still coming out with upgraded turbo kits capable of pushing the S4 to 630 wheel horsepower! The S4 also handles very well and I have had the pleasure of driving one or two through the back roads! Needless to say, the S4 has developed a huge enthusiast community and it’s rare to see an S4 that isn’t modified in some way. It might not have the lines of a supercar but it’s a great choice for those looking for a practical and sophisticated sedan that has all the comforts of a luxury sedan plus the perform of a sportscar!
