A few days ago I was in the Apple store buying something for my iPod and I was looking at the new Mac Pros. I realized Macintosh computers have come a long way since I owned a Mac 10 years ago. (In case you?re wondering I had a Macintosh PowerBook 540c back in 1995). Anyway I decided to price out a new Mac Pro, so here?s what I want if you haven’t found me a Christmas present yet! After all said and done it looks like its going to cost $19,223.95 but don?t get discouraged quite yet because? (drum roll please)? IT QUALIFIES FOR FREE SHIPPING!

Detailed specs are below (for all you nerds) but basically it?s a new Mac Pro with Two 3.0GHz dual core processors, 16 gigs of RAM, Four 750MB hard drives for a total of 3 Terabytes, a crazy graphics card, 2 30inch flat panel Apple Cinema HD displays, a Bose speaker system, and all the other bells and whistles you would expect from a computer that costs as much as a new Honda Civic!

Well I was pretty happy with my 32inch LCD computer screen until I came across the Radius 320?. The Radius 320 actually incorporates three 20.1″ LCD panels into a continuous display system with no gaps in between. I was just about to give up looking for a full featured smartphone that came with an affordible service plan when I found the new Blackberry Pearl. 250cc Shifter Kart specs and info: Don’t be fooled… at first glance these little monsters might bear some resemblance to the 5hp go-cart you had growing up but the similarities stop there. These 250cc shifter karts can hit 60mph in 3 seconds flat and whip around a full size race track at speeds in exess of 125 mph. I just came across the JG Design “Black Diamond” cell phone available from “Vioce Internet Phone Network” and I’m pretty confident that it is the worlds most expensive cell phone (at least I hope its the worlds most expensive phone) :). I thought that paying close to $500 for a Treo 700 was expensive but how about paying $300,000 for the “Black Diamond” luxury smart phone!

Wait… I know what your thinking… “$300,000 is a lot of money for a cell phone.” However, before you rush to judgment let me explain. The “Black Diamond” has a mirror-finished polycarbonate casing that is studded with diamonds. The phone also has a 4-megapixel camera and an ultra-sleek design. It has quad-band GSM/GPRS with built-in Wi-Fi, SIP support, and runs Windows Mobile 5.0 on a 400 MHz Intel XScale processor. The Black Diamond smartphone also has 128mb SD ram and a 2GB SD card (gotta figure the SD card alone is worth at least $50,000 right there)!

For those of you who just can’t wait till this phone hits the shelves in early 2007 I would suggest you check out the Black Diamond website and give them a call. Who knows… maybe if you offer to sign a two year agreement they’ll hook you up with a $50 mail-in rebate!

The Jagerator is undoubtedly one of the world?s most significant inventions. Not since the creation of the Kegerator have I seen a more practical and indispensable device! J?germeister Tap Machines (?jagerators?) not only look cool but they prominently display 3 glorious bottles of Jagermeister atop a sleek black and orange jegermeister chilling machine. I know these are mostly for public bars and night clubs but at only $299.00 I don?t see how any true home bar could be complete without one. (I know it’s next on my list).

The best part is that the Jegerator tap machine is designed to chill Jager to between 5? and 12? F. For those of you who are too drunk to do the math that means the jager shots are served 20 degrees colder than ice! (Ice forms at 32? F)

In my opinion this tap machine is a great investment. : Let?s say you decided to buy it for a public bar or nightclub. The jagerator would actually end up paying for itself in a few bottles. The new Ultra Edition Samsung phones look pretty awesome. I was shopping for a cell phone over the weekend and saw the new Samsung Ultra edition 12.9 cell phone and it looks pretty slick! Its thinner than the razor, slides, is ultra small and comes with tons of great features (like a 3 megapixel camera and built in MP3 player). As in turns out there are three new “Ultra Edition” Samsung cell phones. First is the 9.9 (D830), second is the 12.9 (D900), and third is the 6.9 (X820) (all pictured left-to-right).

The Samsung Ultra Edition 9.9 is feature rich. It includes tri-band (900/1800/1900MHz) GPRS/EDGE, a 2 megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash, a 2.3-inch 240×320 262k TFT main display, Bluetooth, 80MB embedded memory with MicroSD expansion, MP3/AAC media player, and even an MPEG4 recorder with a TV-out jack! The Samsung Ultra Edition 6.9 brings pretty much the same network coverage, camera, Bluetooth, media capabilities, and on-board memory as the 9.9 but had to forgo the microSD card and flash while dropping down to a 1.9-inch 176×220 262k TFT display in order to slip into that world’s slimmest, 6.9-mm, 2.33-ounce package. Today my friend Shawn and I had to upgrade the computer servers for premiumposts.com because of the tremendous success of the website! When I first started premiumposts.com way back in March of 2006 I was only getting about 2 unique visitors a day (1 from my home computer, and one from my work computer). However, now because of the immense popularity of the site and all my loyal readers I am receiving upwards of 30 unique visitors (from all over the world) every single day!!!!! (Amazing I know). If you look up premiumposts.com on Alexa you will see that it is indeed ranked as the 2,483,449th most popular site in the World! Due to this huge explosion in popularity within the past couple months I have decided to get some new Dell Blade Servers! It ended up costing me just under $90,000.00 dollars but I figure that since I am already pulling in almost $40.00 dollars in ad revenue every month, the servers will pay for themselves within 187 years!

Here are some details about the new blade servers: The Dell blade chassis houses 10 loaded Blades, each consisting of 20 dual-core 2.8Ghz Xeon processors (112Ghz total), 120GB RAM, and 20 146GB 15,000 rpm drives (2.9TB total). I also installed a 48 port gigabit switch, a rack-mounted redundant power supply for the switch, and 2 load balancers (one of which is a hot spare). I am keeping my fingers crossed, and I am hopeful that this will be enough to handle the traffic. What do you think?

In case you didn’t catch my sarcasm it’s not actually me that is upgrading my servers just yet. I have a hosting plan with Bluehost.com that gives me 15 gigs of storage, 400 gb/month of site transfer, and the ability to host 6 Domains on 1 Bluehost Account for $6.95 Per Month So… for now I think BlueHost is a bit more cost effective.

I did however just help my friend Shawn (founder and CEO of digital Point Solutions) deliver and install his new servers (the ones mentioned above) to their new home at the data center in downtown. First we had to lug the equipment down the hall and out to the parking garage. We then proceeded to cram the nearly 500 pounds of computer equipment into his SUV

Once we were there it took a few hours to move around the old servers, hook up all the new equipment and secure everything to the rack. There ended up being about 1.5 hours of downtime were digitalpoint.com actaully had to go off line because we had to physically shut down and move the old servers (pictured below)
and put them next to the new blades on the new rack.

Within a few hours everything was up and running and the installation was complete! Hopefully digitalpoint won’t have to upgrade again any time soon. Here is a picture of the new setup with the 10 blades on the bottom.
